The HETAS H009 Service & Maintenance course is ideal for businesses who do not wish to undertake the installation of solid fuel appliances but have experience in a relevant industry such as retailers, chimney sweeps, heating engineers and housing associations.

What are the aims of this course?

Solid fuel appliances are well known for their high quality, robust construction and durability. However, like any product in continuous use they do require attention by the user and routine servicing by an engineer. The course aims to provide candidates with a strong working knowledge of solid fuel appliances and practices in order to be able to carry out routine maintenance, assessments and offer advice to end-users. Key factors will be servicing, fault diagnosis and fault rectification for solid fuel appliances and open fires (excluding pellet stoves).

What are the prerequisites?

At least one of the following:

• Registered member of GOMCS, APICS or NACS

• Registered Gas Safe operative with scope of work categories CCN1 and HTR1

• OFTEC technician with scope of work categories 101,102 or 105e

• Plumbing & heating service/maintenance engineer

• Demonstrable, appropriate previous work experience.

What assessments are involved?

The course will incorporate both a practical assessment and a multiple choice exam.

What do I need for this course?

All training manuals, technical handbooks and certification fees are included in the course fee. For the candidate application and registration process you will need your National Insurance number and a passport sized photograph.

What status do I receive if I pass the course?

Following successful completion of the course, a training certificate will be awarded enabling the candidate to apply for registration with HETAS on the competent person scheme for the service and maintenance of appliances. Installers wishing to service and maintain wet appliances will need to undertake the HETAS H004 training course in addition to H009.
